About the Foreign Qualifications Admission

This admission procedure is intended for students who wish to enter an undergraduate degree programme at a Sri Lankan university using qualifications obtained through a foreign examination or an overseas education system.

Applicants must carefully read the official admission handbook before selecting courses or completing the application. The handbook contains important information about eligibility requirements, recognized foreign qualifications, subject requirements, courses, university codes, fees, supporting documents and the selection procedure.

Important: Eligibility may differ according to the examination completed, subjects offered, grades obtained and the undergraduate course selected. Applicants should not rely only on a general summary when determining eligibility.

Who Can Apply?

Applications may be submitted by eligible Sri Lankan and foreign applicants who possess acceptable foreign educational qualifications and satisfy the relevant academic, subject and documentary requirements specified by the UGC.

  • Applicants who completed an accepted foreign Advanced Level or equivalent examination.
  • Sri Lankan applicants who completed the relevant period of education outside Sri Lanka.
  • Foreign nationals seeking admission to undergraduate courses in Sri Lankan universities.
  • Children of Sri Lankan diplomatic personnel who satisfy the relevant conditions.
  • Applicants who satisfy the subject prerequisites for their selected course of study.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose primary language is not English or whose previous education was not conducted in English may be required to provide acceptable evidence of English-language proficiency.

Application Processing Fee

Every application must be accompanied by proof of payment of the prescribed US$100 application processing fee. The payment may be made according to the methods and banking instructions stated in the official handbook.

Do not transfer money using unofficial account details. Verify the payment instructions and reference number directly from the current UGC handbook before making the payment.

Documents Required

The exact document list depends on the applicant’s nationality and circumstances. The following documents may be required:

  • Originally signed application form.
  • Certified copies of qualifying examination certificates and statements of results.

  • Birth certificate and citizenship-related documents, where applicable.

Important Application Instructions
