Applications are invited for the Second Efficiency Bar Examination 2026 for eligible officers of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service serving in national and provincial schools. The examination will be conducted by the Department of Examinations in October 2026.

Who Can Apply?
Applications may be submitted only by eligible officers of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service and the Teachers’ Service of the Provincial Public Service as specified in the official Gazette notice.
- Teachers promoted to Class 2 Grade II who are required to complete the Second Efficiency Bar Examination.
- Eligible officers should complete the examination before the period specified under the Teachers’ Service Minute.
- Certain officers promoted to Class 2 Grade I subject to completing the efficiency bar requirement may also apply.

Candidates must answer all questions in both papers. A total score of at least 40% from Paper I and Paper II is required to pass.
Examination Syllabus
- Leadership Development and Management
- Effective Techniques for Preparing Activity Plans
- Classroom Management and Inclusive Education
The questions will be prepared based on the relevant self-study modules published through the official e-Thaksalawa platform.
How to Apply Online
- Read the official Gazette notice and common examination instructions.
- Visit the Department of Examinations online application portal.
- Complete the online application in the English language only.
- Check all entered details carefully before submitting the application.
- Submit the application before 10 August 2026 at 9.00 PM.
- Download and print two copies of the submitted application.
- Complete the required sections, certify the signature and obtain the certification of the Zonal Director of Education.
- Place one copy in the personal file and retain the other copy for future requirements.
Application Warning: Incomplete applications may be rejected without notice. Changes made to the printed application after online submission will not be accepted as valid online amendments.
Examination Centres
Examination centres are proposed in all 25 districts, including Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Ratnapura and Kegalle.
The selected examination city cannot be changed later. Where there are insufficient candidates, applicants may be assigned to their second-choice city, a nearby centre or Colombo.
