Available Degree Programmes
01. Bachelor of Arts
Bachelor of Arts Degree with English as a subject.
02. Bachelor of Science
Biological Science, Physical Science or Applied Science.
Educational Qualifications
For the Bachelor of Arts Degree:
Applicants must have passed the General Arts Qualifying External Examination with English as a subject or the First Examination of the Bachelor of Arts External Degree in 2021 or a later year.
For the Bachelor of Science Degree:
Applicants must have passed the First Examination of the Bachelor of Science External Degree in 2021 or a later year.
Other Eligibility Requirements
1 Applicants must have completed at least five years of service as a teacher by the closing date and must have been confirmed in service.
2 Applicants must not be registered for a course at a Teachers’ Training College, National College of Education or the National Institute of Education at the time of selection.
3 Applicants must not be registered for a non-fee-levying internal degree programme at a Sri Lankan government university at the time of selection.
4 Science applicants must have completed the subjects required as prerequisites for the selected Biological Science, Physical Science or Applied Science programme.
5 Applicants must be entitled to full-time study leave with pay. This entitlement will be checked at the interview.
Attestation of Applications
Applications submitted by teachers serving in Government Schools must be attested by the Principal, Zonal Director of Education and Provincial Director of Education.
Applications submitted by teachers serving in Government-Approved Private Schools must be attested by the Principal or Manager of the relevant school. The Principal or Manager must also state whether study leave can be approved for the applicant.
How to Apply
Prepare the application in two copies according to the specimen application form.
Send the completed and properly attested application by registered post to:
Director of Education,
Human Resource Development Branch,
Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education,
Isurupaya,
Battaramulla.
Envelope:
Write “Applications to be admitted to Sri Lankan Universities – 2025/2026 (For Teachers)” on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
Selection Method
Selection will be based on the marks obtained at the relevant General Arts Qualifying Examination, Bachelor of Arts External Degree First Examination or Bachelor of Science External Degree First Examination, marks obtained for the relevant subject and marks awarded at the interview conducted by the University Grants Commission.
Important Notice: The Ministry has stated that it will not be responsible for granting graduate appointments solely based on the completion of this degree.
