2nd Efficiency Bar Examination for Pirivena, Government-Approved Private School and Assisted Special School Teachers – 2026

Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education

Applications are invited for the Second Efficiency Bar Examination 2026 for eligible Pirivena teachers, approved appointed teachers serving in government-approved private schools and approved appointed teachers serving in assisted special schools.

The examination will be conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka in September 2026. Eligible teachers must submit their applications through the official online application system before the closing date.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are limited to eligible teachers belonging to the following categories:

  • Pirivena teachers serving in recognized Pirivenas.
  • Approved appointed teachers serving in private schools approved by the Government.
  • Approved appointed teachers serving in assisted special schools.
Important: Only teachers who satisfy the service and eligibility requirements stated in the official Gazette notice should submit applications.

Examination Fee

No examination fee will be charged. According to the Gazette notice, this Efficiency Bar Examination is being conducted for the first time under the relevant provisions and applications are accepted free of charge.

Examination Structure

Pass Mark: Candidates must obtain a combined total of at least 40% from Paper I and Paper II.

Examination Medium

The examination will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English. Candidates may select the language medium applicable to their appointment subject or an official language.

All question papers must be answered in the same selected medium. The examination medium selected in the online application cannot be changed later.

The examination is expected to be conducted at centres established in the following districts and cities, subject to receiving a sufficient number of applications:

The examination centre or city requested in the application cannot be changed later. Where there are insufficient applicants, candidates may be assigned to their second-choice city or another nearby examination centre.

How to Apply Online

  1. Open the Department of Examinations online application portal.
  2. Download and carefully read the official application instructions.
  3. Complete the online application in the English language only.
  4. Check your name, National Identity Card number, contact details, examination medium and selected examination cities carefully.
  5. Submit the completed application before 17 August 2026 at 9.00 PM.
  6. Download and print two copies of the submitted application.
  7. Complete the relevant sections by hand and obtain the required signature certification.
  8. Obtain the certification of the Zonal Director of Education.
  9. Place one certified copy in your personal file and retain the second copy for submission when requested.
Application Warning: Incomplete applications may be rejected without notice. Changes made manually after printing the submitted online application will not be accepted as valid amendments.

Admission Card

Admission cards will be issued online by the Department of Examinations to applicants who have submitted properly completed applications before the deadline.

Candidates must have their signature on the admission card certified by the Zonal Director of Education or an authorized officer. Entry to the examination hall will not be permitted without a properly certified admission card.
