Editorial & Corrections Policy

Learn how OpenUniversity.lk selects sources, prepares summaries, publishes updates and handles corrections to jobs, exams and education information.

Last updated: August 25, 2026

OpenUniversity.lk aims to publish clear, useful and reliable information about Sri Lankan jobs, examinations, results, courses, gazettes, scholarships and other education opportunities.

Our approach: Important factual information should be based on the best available source, presented clearly, and corrected when material errors are identified.

1. Our Editorial Principles

Accuracy

We aim to present important facts correctly and clearly.

Official Sources

Official notices are prioritized for important application and examination facts.

Clarity

Long notices may be organized into easier-to-read summaries.

Corrections

Material errors should be reviewed and corrected when identified.

Independence

Advertising does not determine factual editorial information.

Transparency

Users should be able to identify official links and understand our independent status.

2. Source Priority

For important facts such as eligibility, application dates, closing dates, fees, examinations, vacancies and official procedures, we aim to prioritize authoritative sources.

These may include:

  • official government websites;
  • government gazettes;
  • official ministry or department notices;
  • Department of Examinations publications;
  • official university websites;
  • official recruitment advertisements;
  • provincial authority notices;
  • official application systems; and
  • other relevant authoritative sources.

3. Secondary Sources

In some situations, we may become aware of an announcement through a secondary source.

Where the information affects an application, payment, examination, deadline or other important decision, we aim to verify the relevant information against an official or more authoritative source where reasonably available.

4. How We Prepare Summaries

Official notices can sometimes be lengthy or difficult to navigate on mobile devices.

We may therefore organize or summarize important information such as:

  • job or examination title;
  • issuing organization;
  • qualification requirements;
  • application dates;
  • closing dates;
  • examination dates;
  • application methods;
  • official documents; and
  • relevant links.

Our summaries are intended to help readers understand the main points more quickly.

Users should still consult the complete official notice before submitting an application, paying fees or making an important decision.

5. Headlines & Titles

Headlines should aim to clearly identify the opportunity, examination, result or notice being discussed.

We may simplify lengthy official titles for readability, but we aim not to intentionally misrepresent the nature of the notice.

6. Dates, Deadlines & Time-Sensitive Information

Application closing dates, examination dates, admission-card releases and results are time-sensitive information.

Authorities may extend, amend or cancel dates after an article has been published.

Where we become aware of a significant official change, we may update the existing article or publish a separate update.

7. Updates to Published Content

Published pages may be updated when new official information becomes available.

Examples include:

  • closing-date extensions;
  • amended gazette notices;
  • new application instructions;
  • admission-card releases;
  • examination dates;
  • interview lists;
  • results; and
  • corrections issued by an authority.

In some cases, a new article may be published instead of substantially changing an older page, particularly when the new information represents a separate stage of the process.

8. Corrections Policy

If we identify a material factual error, we aim to correct it as soon as reasonably practical.

A material error may include incorrect information about:

  • eligibility;
  • closing dates;
  • examination dates;
  • fees;
  • application links;
  • issuing organizations;
  • recruitment details; or
  • other information that could affect a user's decision.

9. Minor Corrections

Minor spelling, grammar, formatting or readability improvements may be made without a separate correction notice when they do not materially change the meaning of the article.

10. Significant Corrections

Where an error substantially changes important factual information, we may update the page, replace the incorrect information, add clarification or publish a new update when appropriate.

11. Reporting an Error

Readers are encouraged to contact us if they believe a page contains incorrect or outdated information.

Please include:

  • the page URL;
  • the information believed to be incorrect;
  • the correct information where known; and
  • an official source or reference where available.

12. Official Sources Remain Authoritative

OpenUniversity.lk is an independent information portal.

Where there is a difference between a summary published on our website and an official notice issued by the relevant authority, users should follow the official notice.

13. Editorial Independence & Advertising

OpenUniversity.lk may display advertising, including advertising supplied through Google AdSense.

Advertising does not determine the factual content of individual job, examination, course, result or education-information articles.

The appearance of an advertisement does not represent editorial endorsement of the advertiser, service or product.

If sponsored, promotional or paid content is published, it should be distinguishable from ordinary editorial information where appropriate.

15. Independent Status

OpenUniversity.lk is not automatically affiliated with the organizations mentioned in our articles.

We are not the Open University of Sri Lanka, nor should the OpenUniversity.lk domain name be interpreted as representing that institution.

Users should verify the official organization before submitting personal information, applications or payments.

16. Editorial & Correction Contact
