01. Senior Economist – Modelling and Forecasting Division

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka is recruiting a Senior Economist for the Modelling and Forecasting Division of the Economic Research Department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake macroeconomic forecasting and quantitative analysis.
  • Develop, refine and apply structural macroeconomic models, including DSGE models, semi-structural models and econometric models.
  • Provide analytical insights and policy recommendations using forecasts, scenario analysis and risk assessments.
  • Conduct policy-oriented research and contribute to CBSL reports, publications and other analytical outputs.

Additional Skills Required

  • Proficiency in macroeconomic modelling techniques.
  • Knowledge of macroeconomic linkages.
  • Experience with MATLAB, EViews, IRIS, Dynare or similar software.
  • Strong analytical, research and communication skills.

02. Senior Economist – Money and Banking, Balance of Payments and Real Sector Divisions

Applications are also invited for Senior Economist positions in the Money and Banking, Balance of Payments and Real Sector Divisions of the Economic Research Department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct economic research, monetary policy analysis and technical studies.
  • Analyse economic and statistical data and contribute to databases, models and forecasting tools.
  • Prepare research reports, policy briefs, board papers and presentations.
  • Contribute to the compilation, dissemination and publication of economic statistics.
  • Coordinate with government agencies, financial institutions and international organizations.
  • Provide guidance, supervision, training and mentorship to junior staff.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess a relevant postgraduate qualification and an eligible bachelor’s degree.

Postgraduate Qualification

  • A Master’s degree and/or PhD specialising in Economics or a related field, as specified in the relevant advertisement.
  • The qualification should be from a globally recognised university meeting the ranking requirements stated by CBSL.

Bachelor’s Degree

A bachelor’s degree of at least three years with a minimum Second Class Upper Division, GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0 or minimum Weighted Average Marks of 75%, in one of the following areas:

  • Economics
  • Statistics or Mathematics
  • Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Information Technology
  • Data Science
  • Accounting
  • Banking or Finance
  • Commerce
  • Management
  • Business Administration
  • Public Policy

Work Experience

Applicants must have at least five years of relevant post-bachelor’s degree work experience. A maximum of three years spent pursuing full-time postgraduate studies may be considered when calculating the required five years of experience, subject to the conditions stated in the official notice.

Age, Employment and Benefits

  • Age: 35 years or below as at 23 August 2026.
  • Successful candidates will initially be subject to a two-year probation period.
  • Confirmed officers will be placed in Staff Class Grade II of the General Service.
  • Salary will be offered according to the applicable CBSL salary scales.
