NDT Application 2026/2027 – ITUM University of Moratuwa
Applications are now invited from eligible candidates for admission to the National Diploma in Technology (NDT) Course – 2026/2027 Intake conducted by the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM).

About the National Diploma in Technology – NDT
The National Diploma in Technology is a three-year full-time programme conducted by the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa. The programme consists of two years of academic studies followed by one year of industrial training.
The NDT programme is conducted in English medium and offers study opportunities across maritime and other engineering and technology-related fields.

Eligibility for NDT Admission 2026/2027
Age Requirement
Applicants should be below 24 years of age as at 31 December 2025.
Applicants below 20 years of age as at 31 December 2025 will be given preference for admission to Marine Engineering Technology and Nautical Studies. A special medical test and interview will also be conducted for selection to these maritime programmes.
Educational Qualifications
Applicants should have obtained passes in all three of the following subjects at one and the same sitting of the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination held in 2023, 2024 or 2025:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Combined Mathematics or Higher Mathematics
Candidates applying for Marine Engineering Technology or Nautical Studies should also have obtained at least a Credit Pass (C) in English Language at the G.C.E. O/L Examination.
Important University Registration Condition
Candidates who are already registered as full-time students in a University under the University Grants Commission, except the Open University of Sri Lanka, or in another Higher Educational Institute under the Ministry of Higher Education, are not eligible to apply according to the admission conditions.
NDT Selection Procedure
Selection for admission will be based on the applicant's G.C.E. A/L performance and the ITUM aptitude test.
Candidates shortlisted according to their G.C.E. A/L performance under merit and district quota will be called for the aptitude test conducted by the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa.
From applicants who pass the aptitude test, selection will be made according to G.C.E. A/L Z-Score merit order. The Gazette states that the selection system applies:
- 40% – Merit
- 60% – District Quota
Allocation of the field of study will also consider the applicant's aptitude test marks and order of field preference.
How to Apply for NDT 2026/2027
Step 1 – Open the Online Application
Visit the ITUM NDT online application portal and select the option for a New Applicant / Apply Now.
Step 2 – Select the Field SET
Applicants may apply for:
- SET 1 – Maritime Studies only
- SET 2 – Other Fields only
- Both SET 1 and SET 2
Step 3 – Enter Personal Details
Complete the application entirely in English. Personal details should be entered carefully according to official documents. The applicant's full name should correspond with the Birth Certificate.
Applicants should provide a valid NIC number, permanent residential address, active mobile number and valid email address.
Step 4 – Enter G.C.E. A/L Details
Enter the relevant G.C.E. A/L examination year, attempt, examination index number, results and Z-Score.
Step 5 – Select Aptitude Test Medium
Select the medium in which you wish to sit the aptitude test: Sinhala, Tamil or English. According to the instructions, the aptitude test medium cannot be changed after submitting the application.
Step 6 – Enter School Details
Enter details of the school or schools attended from Grade 11 to Grade 13. Private candidates should enter the required private candidate details according to the instructions.
Step 7 – Enter Field Preferences
SET 1: Candidates applying for Maritime Studies should enter preference numbers 1 and 2.
SET 2: Candidates should rank the eight fields from 1 to 8, where 1 represents the most preferred field.
Step 8 – Check University Registration
Applicants must correctly declare whether they are already registered at another University or Higher Educational Institution according to the conditions mentioned in the application.
Step 9 – Save and Check Details
After entering the information, confirm that the details are correct and use Save and Check the Details to generate the preview. Do not refresh the page while the preview is loading.
Step 10 – Check the Application Preview
Carefully verify all details shown in the preview. Keep the generated username safely for future reference. Make any necessary corrections before final submission.
Step 11 – Pay the Application Fee
Pay the appropriate application fee and upload a scanned copy of the payment slip to the online system.
Step 12 – Submit and Download PDF
After checking all details, confirm the declaration and select Submit the Application and Download the PDF. Save the downloaded application PDF.

The application fee is non-refundable.
A scanned image of the payment slip must be uploaded with the online application. The applicant instructions indicate that payment slip files may be uploaded in supported formats such as JPEG, JPG, PNG or PDF.
How to Send the Printed Application
Completing the online application alone is not sufficient. Applicants must also send the printed hard copy of the submitted online application.
- Download and print the automatically generated application PDF.
- Keep the automatically generated application number for future reference.
- Obtain the required certification for the relevant section of the application. School candidates should obtain the required certification from the Principal of the last attended school, while private candidates should follow the certification requirement given in the official instructions.
- Read the applicant declaration carefully and sign and date the application.
- Paste the original payment receipt in the space provided.
- Enclose a self-addressed 9" × 4" envelope with Rs. 130 worth of stamps.
- Send the completed application by Registered Post.

Every applicant is required to submit both the online application and the hard copy before the closing date. Applicants who fail to complete both requirements may not be considered for further processing. Incomplete applications may also be rejected.
