Open Competitive Examination – Transport Costing Officer Grade III
Applications are invited from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the Transport Costing Officer – Grade III vacancies in the Sri Lanka Railway Department. Recruitment will be conducted through an open competitive examination.
The Gazette contains two different application closing dates. Section 1.2 mentions 14 September 2026, while the application instructions state that applications should be received on or before 24 August 2026. Applicants are strongly advised to submit their applications on or before 24 August 2026 unless an official clarification is issued by the Sri Lanka Railway Department.

Applicants should possess one of the following qualifications:
Option 01: A degree from a university recognised by the University Grants Commission with at least one subject from:
OR
A degree in any field from a recognised university together with two years of experience in Cost Management.
The written competitive examination consists of the following two question papers:

This paper evaluates language ability, reasoning ability, decision-making skills and mathematical ability. It consists of approximately 50 multiple-choice and short-answer questions.

The examination covers areas including cost concepts, management decision-making, material and labour costs, variable and fixed costs, direct and indirect costs, financial analysis, data collection, statistical analysis and forecasting.

Candidates must answer all examination papers in the same language medium. The selected examination medium cannot be changed later.
Examination Fee: Rs. 1,200
The examination fee should be deposited into the specified Sri Lanka Railway Department account at a People's Bank branch. Applicants should attach the original payment receipt to the application and retain a photocopy.
Applications should be prepared according to the specimen application published with the Gazette notification.

Candidates who pass the written examination will be called for the structured interview according to merit. The number called for the interview will generally be twice the number of available vacancies.
Because two different closing dates appear in the Gazette, applicants should avoid waiting until September. Submit the application as early as possible and preferably on or before 24 August 2026, unless the Railway Department publishes an official correction or clarification.
