Postal Driver Vacancies 2026 – Overview

The Department of Posts, Sri Lanka has called applications for the practical test to recruit eligible employees to Grade III Postal Driver (Limited) posts in the Primary Level Skilled Category.

According to Postmaster General Circular No. 13/2026, applications are invited to fill 14 vacancies. Candidates will be selected through a practical test conducted by an authorised Recruitment Board, followed by a general interview.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are invited from eligible officers serving as:

• Postal Assistant – Salary Scales PPL-1-2025, PPL-2-2025, PPL-3-2025 or PPL-4-2025
• Postal Assistant Technical – Salary Scale PL-2-2025

Required Qualifications

Professional Qualification

Applicants must possess a valid D Category Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence issued by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic.

Educational Qualifications

Educational qualifications are not applicable for this recruitment.

Experience

• The applicant should have obtained the D Category Heavy Vehicle Driving Licence at least 3 years before the application closing date of 18 September 2026.
• A photocopy of the driving licence should be submitted with the application.
• Applicants should have been confirmed in active service for the required five-year period as at the closing date and satisfy the service requirements stated in the official circular.
• Applicants should satisfy the disciplinary requirements specified in Public Service Commission Circular No. 01/2020.

Physical Requirements

• Minimum height: approximately 157 cm (5 ft 2½ in).
• Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to perform driver duties.
• Applicants must have good eyesight.
• Fitness should be confirmed by a formal medical certificate from the National Transport Medical Institute.
• According to the official circular, only male applicants are eligible for this limited recruitment.

Selection Procedure

Recruitment will be conducted through a practical test and general interview. Selection will be based on the merit order of marks obtained at the practical test. No marks are allocated for the general interview.

Practical Test Marks

Candidates are required to pass all three subjects in one attempt.

How to Apply

Eligible applicants should complete the prescribed application form according to the instructions in the official circular. Applications must be properly certified through the relevant departmental authorities.

Applications should be sent through the appropriate official channel by registered post to reach the relevant authority before 18 September 2026.

The left-hand side of the envelope should carry the title specified in the official recruitment notice for the Grade III Postal Drivers (Limited) practical test.

Employment Conditions

• Selected applicants will be recruited subject to a one-year probationary period.
• The first Efficiency Bar Test must be passed within three years of recruitment.
• Required language proficiency should be obtained according to the applicable Public Administration circulars.
• Selected drivers must be prepared to work during the day or night and in any part of Sri Lanka when required.
