Department of Measurement Units, Standards and Services – Open Competitive Examination 2026

Applications are invited for the Open Competitive Examination for Recruitment to the Trainee Grade of the Posts of Inspectors of Measurement Services and Devices of the Sri Lanka Technological Service in the Department of Measurement Units, Standards and Services.

Salary and Training Allowance

Period Allowance / Salary
Training – 1st Year Rs. 43,274 per month
Training – 2nd Year Rs. 45,770 per month
After Appointment Rs. 52,250 – Rs. 100,040

The applicable salary scale is MN 3 – 2025 under Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025.

Educational Qualifications

Applicants should have passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in one sitting with three subjects selected from:

  • Combined Mathematics
  • Higher Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Agriculture

The three subjects must include Physics and either Combined Mathematics or Higher Mathematics, as specified in the official Gazette.

Under the old syllabus, applicants should have passed three subjects in one sitting including Physics and either Applied Mathematics or Pure Mathematics.

G.C.E. O/L Qualification

Applicants must also have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in one sitting with six subjects, including credit passes for:

  • Language
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • One other subject

Age Limit

Applicants should be between 18 and 30 years of age as at the closing date.

Eligible Date of Birth:
Applicants should have been born on or before 04 September 2008 and on or after 04 September 1996.

According to the Gazette, the maximum age limit does not apply to applicants who are already serving in the Government Service.

Other Qualifications

  • Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
  • Must possess an excellent character.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the post.
  • Must satisfy all educational and other qualifications by the closing date.

Recruitment and Training

Eligible applicants will be selected through an open competitive examination conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka.

Candidates selected for recruitment will undergo approximately two years of theoretical and practical training. Candidates who successfully complete the training and obtain the required competency certificate will be appointed to Class III of the relevant service.

Candidates must obtain at least 40% for each subject to qualify.

Intelligence Test

The paper consists of approximately 50 multiple-choice and short-answer questions designed to test logical reasoning, thinking ability, analytical ability and decision-making skills.

Technical Question Paper

This paper tests knowledge related to measurement of physical quantities and practical physics. Knowledge at approximately G.C.E. A/L level is sufficient for the examination.
